Hi! I’m Tom, aged 35, from South Wales in the UK, and this page exists so you can find out a little more about me, and the technical stuff behind this site.
During the week, I normally can be found sitting at my desk, at an IT company working as an application guy (or Software Simian as Wally would say).
This is probably as good a place as any to state categorically that anything posted on this website does not represent the opinions of my employer, and should not be taken as representative of company policy or official position.
Outside of work, I’m a bit of a film buff, regularly visiting my local cinema to see the latest big blockbuster movies, and catching films I missed at the cinema on DVD…
I’m also now trying to shed some weight – about 6 stone (thats 84lbs or 38kg for those of you who think that way). So far I’ve lost nearly two of those stone, and have reached a milestone of “fitting in the standard seats on Nemesis” – however it’s a daily battle.
I’m also a geek – with interests in computers, networking, cinema, and other gadgets and “expensive toys”. Fortunately, (or as I increasingly look at it, “unfortunately”) I don’t have a partner, so there’s no-one to stop me (except the credit card company!). I’m a geek of pretty general interests, anything from electronics to structural engineering really and I’ve an interest in it (in other words, pretty much anything shown on the Discovery Channel – but especially shows like Mythbusters, Extreme Machines)
I’m just as likely, however, to be found enjoying the peace and quiet at the National Botanic Gardens or hiking around the hills, valleys and beaches of South Wales with friends. Oh, and just occasionally visiting a themepark or two.

Now, I hate spam as much as the next person. As well as the automatic spam checks built into this site, I also actively check every comment and trackback which the automated checks haven’t rejected.
Comments must be:
- Relevant to the post, comments which just provide a link-back to an unrelated site will be deleted.
- Be marked with your name (first name only is fine) and a valid email address (which is never published). Obviously faked email addresses will be considered spam.
- Comments must be written in “proper” language. A comment which looks like the following is very likely to be deleted.

- Proper English spelling and punctation is a good thing.
- Smilies are available, and should be automatically converted from common forms – if your comment hasn’t been, I’ll do this manually.
- You are not writing a text message. You are not limited to 160 characters. Feel free to write words like you, are and later without resorting to text speak
- No arguments will be entered into – if you’re just commenting to get a linkback, don’t bother.
- No swearing.
- No unnecessary punctuation (for example, twenty exclamation marks at the end of sentence will get your comment deleted).
Trackbacks must be:
- Real. The trackback will be automatically rejected or deleted where the originating page does not contain a link to this site.
- Relevant to the post.
